Habitat Given $6,000 Grant

NEW PORT RICHEY - West Pasco Habitat for Humanity was awarded a $6,000 grant from Bank of America on Wednesday. Bank officials visited the Habitat office, 3531 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey, to present a check to organization representatives.

"I believe this is more than they've ever given us," said Rick Pittenger, resource coordinator for West Pasco Habitat for Humanity. "This is the kind of donation that helps us build houses."

Pittenger said the donation will go toward the Habitat building fund, which covers expenses such as building materials, subcontractors' fees and inspections. The agency plans the construction of four homes within the next year, primarily in the Moon Lake area.

Melanie Prine, Bank of America's support executive for North Florida, including Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties, said some of her company's employees will volunteer at the work sites.

"It's even more important in today's economic conditions to give back to organizations that need it," she said. "It meets our vision locally, being able to support these families."

Among those on hand for Wednesday's check presentation were Pittenger; Prine; West Pasco Habitat President Jeffrey Herzog; Vice President Roger Graves; Treasurer Ellie Hollis; Board of Directors member Kevin S. McCullough; outlet store manager Michael McGuire; and intern Sandra Wohlers. Also present were Diane Izzo, banking center manager for Bank of America at Trinity Mitchell Ranch, and the branch's business support manager, Nancy Strout.

"Good things are happening for West Pasco Habitat," Herzog said. "We're making progress."
